Imagine a World in Which…

This is an excerpt from my Dream as part of EWB’s 2036 Imagine Campaign. I am asking you to read what is below and then visit here for the full dream and consider contributing to support EWB and the work that I do. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Miriam

Don’t worry about what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
Howard Thurman

I have a dream.

A dream of a world that I want to live in one day, a world that I want to help create. It’s a dream about a different way to think about poverty. It’s a dream about our mindsets and the impact they have on our actions.

I dream of a world in which development is seen not as charity or saving starving children, but as supporting and strengthening opportunity that already exists.

A world in which we don’t only try help people with handouts, but that we seek to help people reach their own potential.

A world  in which our apathy for the ‘other’ who is far away or right next door is translated into caring, generosity and love for ‘us’.

A world in which we understand that each of us is equal in our humanity.

A world in which we see the life, beauty and innovation of places like Africa and Jane and Finch.

A world in which supporting people’s passions and following our own is what will drive change.
